Sterling Infrastructure, Inc. (STRL - Free Report) emphasized expanding demand for mission-critical infrastructure during its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, highlighting larger projects, growing electrical operations and increasing visibility into future work.

Management raised its full-year outlook following strong earnings and revenue growth. Executives also addressed margin pressures, capacity constraints and geographic expansion, particularly in Texas, where demand continues to exceed available resources.

STRL Beats Earnings and Revenue Estimates

Sterling reported adjusted earnings of $7.58 per share, up 118% year over year, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.07 by 24.90%.

Quarterly revenues reached $1.563 billion, increasing 127% year over year and exceeding the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.168 billion by 33.80%. Organic revenue growth was approximately 70%.

Adjusted EBITDA increased 117% to $337.8 million, while the adjusted EBITDA margin stood at 21.6%. CEO and president Joseph Cutillo attributed the performance to strong market demand, execution and the company's strategy.

Sterling Raises Its Full-Year Outlook

Sterling increased its 2026 revenue guidance to $4.63-$4.73 billion and adjusted earnings guidance to $21.70-$21.96 per share.

CFO Nicholas Grindstaff also outlined adjusted EBITDA expectations of $970-$981 million. At the guidance midpoints, management projects 88% revenue growth and 101% adjusted earnings growth year over year.

Cutillo cautioned that fourth-quarter assumptions incorporate greater weather-related disruptions than in 2025. Seasonal labor scheduling and holiday-related slowdowns also remain considerations.

STRL Sees Expanding Mission-Critical Demand

COO Daniel Govin reported that E-Infrastructure Solutions revenues increased 212% to $1.303 billion, driven by data center and semiconductor projects.

Electrical subsidiary CEC generated $426 million in quarterly revenues, more than quadrupling its comparable prior-year contribution. Management now expects CEC's full-year revenues could exceed $1 billion.

Sterling's total scoped work approached $8 billion, increasing approximately 90% year over year. This includes $4.1 billion in signed backlog, $2 billion in unsigned awards and approximately $1.7 billion in upcoming design phases.

Sterling Addresses Electrical Margin Pressures

During the Q&A, a Cantor Fitzgerald analyst questioned the anticipated fourth-quarter margin decline and its implications for 2027.

Cutillo explained that CEC's faster growth reduces consolidated margins because electrical operations structurally generate lower margins than site development. However, the business requires substantially less capital.

Management remains committed to improving CEC's operating margins by 300-500 basis points within 18-24 months of acquisition. Cutillo noted that underlying improvements have already exceeded 150 basis points, excluding legacy noncore operations.

STRL Targets Capacity Expansion and Acquisitions

An Oppenheimer analyst questioned CEC's ability to sustain growth amid labor constraints. Cutillo highlighted hiring approximately 80 electricians weekly in Texas and expanding prefabrication capabilities.

Management expects Texas to become a major growth contributor but acknowledged that available opportunities currently exceed Sterling's operating capacity. Acquisitions remain important for accelerating expansion.

Cutillo reiterated a multiyear target of 20-30% annual organic profitability growth. Combined with strategic acquisitions, management aspires to approximately 50% annual earnings growth, although acquisition timing remains uncertain.

Sterling Maintains Its Long-Term Growth Focus

Sterling enters the remainder of 2026 emphasizing selective project execution, capacity investments and expansion into high-demand infrastructure markets.

Management also highlighted $427 million in operating cash flow during the first nine months and a $122 million net cash position, supporting continued investment and acquisition opportunities.
